The Story of Recovery
The story of recovery is different for everyone. We, as human beings, all face different struggles and hardships that we must go through in order to truly know how strong we really are. Strength is something that people in recovery feel is impossible to have. But the strength is, and always will be there; though difficult to find, it is there.
Beginning with realizing the signs of struggle, and realizing that there is help out there, that you are never alone, and that there IS light within the darkness, are some of the first few steps to recovering. You may not want to recover, and you may want to give up, but deep down you know you have to. Whether you do it for others or for yourself, realizing that you need it is incredible enough. We all have that someone who we wish to recover for; who we want to see smile again alongside of us without the fear of losing who we are to whatever it is we are recovering from. There will be no more fear of being unloved for the way we act or look due to horrid diseases that require recovery. No one wants to feel empty inside. The way these negative feelings make us respond and react is only temporary. The way you feel after recovery, while the emptiness you've felt is filled with strength during the recovery process is indescribable.
Recovery IS different for everyone. Whether you are recovering from an addiction, self-abusive behaviors, or even recovering from an accident, injury, disorder or disease, recovery will always have a light waiting for you in the end. If you stay focused, motivated, let out all your emotions and truly let yourself feel, you will be able to really come out of whatever darkness you are feeling in the journey. Never forget, the journey is not an easy one, but if you really want this, it can and it will happen. There are times where it may feel like forever, but there is absolutely no time limit to recovery. As long as you do the work, you will get there.
Struggles will come, but they will fade. To find yourself again after an exhausting struggle and war within yourself will help you hold onto that "high" you feel when you experience coming out of the darkness. The "high" you feel from finding yourself all over again is admirable to many, and people look up to that. You will begin to inspire others through your strength. Holding onto this will help you be one step closer to adding a few pages in your story of recovery. Once you find your inner strength, it is a powerful realization; no matter what triggers you may face, no matter what negative thoughts may come, it will always be there in you, throughout your lifetime. You will find it, you will feel it, and you will want it more than anything. Let your story of recovery be heard, so you can be proud of yourself, make people proud of you, and keep inspiring others.
